[:de]Es war unser erster Tag auf dem Kreuzfahrtschiff MS Eurodam von Holland America Line. Wir freuten uns schon sehr darauf, die Juwelen Spaniens zu entdecken. Unsere Reise begann im Hafen von Barcelona und auf dem Schiff erwartete uns eine wunderbare Signature Suite. Als wir in unsere Signature Suite auf der Eurodam kamen, war unser Gepäck bereits da. Auch eine Vielzahl von Informationen lag bereit. Darunter auch ein Deckplan der MS Eurodam und das deutschsprachige Programm für den ersten Tag. Im Programm standen alle Informationen, was es an Bord wann und wo zu erleben gibt. An erster Tagesordnung stand für uns allerdings die Erkundung unserer Kabine. Später ging es zur Sail Away Party um 17 Uhr auf Deck 9.

Signature Suite Ausstattung

Die Signature Suiten auf der Eurodam sind alle frisch renoviert und in hellen grau und braun Tönen gehalten.

Es gibt ein großes Sofa mit einem Sessel und einem Couchtisch. Auf dem Tisch stand eine leere Obstschale mit einem Zettel bereit. Auf dem Zettel kann man am Anfang der Reise das gewünschte Obst ankreuzen. Zur Auswahl standen rote und grüne Äpfel, Bananen, Birnen und Orangen. Bei Bedarf wird der Obstkorb während der Reise aufgefüllt. Neben der Sofaecke stand ein großer Frisiertisch mit einem beleuchtetem Spiegel, einem Vergrößerungsspiegel und einem Fön. Das Badezimmer war mit einem großen Waschtisch mit Doppelwaschbecken, einer Dusche, WC und einer Whirlpoolbadewanne ausgestattet. Außerdem gab es Duschgel, Haarwaschmittel und Conditioner von Elemis, einer renommierten britischen Spa- und Hautpflegemarke.

Es gab sogar persönliches Briefpapier und drei Postkarten mit Schiffsmotiv. Außerdem lagen ein ONBOARD value booklet für Signature Suite Gäste, das Ausflugsprogramm und Hafeninformationen für unsere Route bereit. In dem ONBOARD value booklet waren verschiedene Gutscheine und Rabattcoupons enthalten wie z.B.:

• Einmal 1 Stunde kostenlosen Aufenthalt im Thermal Bereich während das Schiff im Hafen liegt
• Ein Grand Coffee Getränk zum Preis eines Tall Coffee Getränkes im Explorations Café
• Ein Gratis Abendessen für Zwei im Pinnacle Grill beim Kauf eines Admiral´s Wine Pakets an Bord (7 Flaschen)
• 10% Rabatt beim Kauf eines Navigator Wein-Pakets (7 Flaschen) an Bord
• $10 Rabatt beim Kauf eines Holland America Bademantels mit Monogramm der Holland America Line
• Eine kostenlose Teilnahme am Fitnesskurs, beim Kauf eins anderen Fitnesskurses

Außerdem lag auch unsere Karte für das Getränkepaket bereit. Wir hatten online vorab ein Getränkepaket für alkoholfreie Getränke (Soda package) bestellt. In dem Soda package sind Getränke wie Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Tonic Water und Ginger Ale enthalten. Die Getränke bekommt man aus dem Zapfhahn, nicht aus der Dose. Wasser ist darin nicht enthalten. Es kostete online US$ 25.00 und hatte einen Wert von US§ 50.00. Wir hatten zwei Pakete gekauft, was sich am Ende als zu viel herausstellte, da wir durch die Aufenthalte an Land gar nicht so viel Soda an Bord getrunken haben. Nächstes Mal würden wir nur ein Soda Paket kaufen. Die Karte sieht aus wie eine Kreditkarte und muss immer vorgelegt werden, um ein Getränk davon zu nutzen. Man konnte sie an allen Bars und in den Restaurants einsetzen, um sich ein Getränk aus dem Soda Paket zu bestellen.

In der Signature Suite gab es noch eine große Arbeitsecke mit Fenster zum Balkon. Hier ist auch die Minibar untergebracht. Für unser Gepäck gab es drei Kleiderschränke mit Doppeltüren und wirklich jede Menge Stauraum. Hier hätten wir mühelos Gepäck für 14 Tage unterbringen können. Im Kleiderschrank gab es neben den Schwimmwesten auch zwei schön flauschige Bademäntel, einen Regenschirm und eine Schale für Schuhe. Hier konnte man die Schuhe für den kostenlosen Schuhputzservice hineinlegen.

Über der Sitzecke hing ein großer Flatscreen-Fernseher mit ca. 48 Zoll. Auf dem Fernseher kann man sich jederzeit die Speisekarten der Restaurants und Ausflugstipps ansehen. In der kostenlosen Videothek konnte man sich Filme und Serien in verschiedenen Sprachen ansehen. Auch unser Balkon war wirklich groß. Es gab dort zwei Sessel, Hocker und einen Tisch. Einziges Manko: wir hatten den Balkon direkt am gläsernen Fahrstuhl und man konnte perfekt vom Fahrstuhl aus den Balkon einsehen. Das war leider etwas unerfreulich, aber wir wollten uns davon nicht stören lassen, denn ansonsten war der Balkon einfach großartig.

Alkohol an Bord der MS Eurodam

Jetzt waren wir gespannt auf den Rest der Eurodam. Vorher bestellen wir aber noch einen Kübel Eis für den mitgebrachten Champagner. Bei Holland America darf jeder Erwachsene eine 0,75 Liter Flasche Sekt oder Wein kostenlos mit an Bord bringen. Diese darf dann auf der Kabine genossen werden. Jede weitere Flasche kostet $ 18 Korkgeld. Andere Spirituosen sind nicht erlaubt. Das Eis kam sofort und wir lernten unseren sehr freundlichen Steward kennen.

Sail Away Party

Um 15 Uhr fand die obligatorische Seenotrettungsübung auf der Eurodam statt. Die Übung wird, im Vergleich zu einigen anderen Reedereien, straff durchgezogen. Nach der Übung gingen wir auf Deck 9. Hier fand auf dem Aussendeck die Abreiseparty mit spanischen Tapas und Drinks (gegen Gebühr) statt. Es wurde ein wirklich umfangreiches Tapasbuffet aufgebaut und überall standen Stehtische, an denen man die Tapas und die Ausfahrt aus Barcelona bei strahlendem Sonnenschein und spanischer Musik genießen konnte.

Vor dem Essen gingen wir noch zum Willkommen an Bord Sektempfang in der Art Gallery auf Deck 2. Neben vielen anderen Bildern hängen hier auch zwei 3D Bilder von Romero Britto in der Ausstellung. Wir erfuhren, dass viele Kunstwerke exklusiv an Bord durch Park West angeboten werden. Hier können Kunstliebhaber ihre Kunstwerke kaufen und direkt nach Hause liefern lassen. Ein Stückchen weiter befand sich thematisch passend auch die Gallery Bar.

Open Seating Abendessen

Beim Abendessen hatten wir keine feste Tischzeit. Wir hatten uns nämlich für das open seating im Dining Room der Eurodam entschieden. Das bedeutet, dass man zwischen 17:30 Uhr und 21:15 Uhr jederzeit ins Restaurant gehen kann. Eventuell muss man kurz warten, bis ein Tisch frei wird. Hierfür bekommt man einen Buzzer, der rot blinkt, sobald ein Tisch frei ist. Wie bei anderen Reedereien auch, wählt man im Restaurant Vorspeise, Hauptgang und Nachtisch. Eiswasser ist zum Essen frei. Es gibt eine gut sortierte Weinkarte und man kann sich vom freundlichen Sommelier den richtigen Wein zum gewünschten Hauptgang empfehlen lassen.

Reisetipps vom Location Guide Tom

Nach dem Essen besuchten wir noch die Smooth Sailing Veranstaltung des Cruise Directors mit Location Guide Tom und danach den B.B. King´s All-Stars Club. Beides ist sehr zu empfehlen. Bei der Smooth Sailing Veranstaltung bekamen wir von Tour Guide Tom tolle Tipps zu den Häfen. Sehr angenehm ist dabei, dass es nicht die übliche Ausflugsverkaufsveranstaltung ist, sondern Tom auch tolle Tipps gibt, wenn man auf eigene Faust den nächsten Hafen entdecken will. Außerdem erzählt er viel zur Geschichte der angefahrenen Häfen und weist mit einer kleinen Präsentation auf besonders sehenswürdige Plätze und Gebäude hin. Im B.B. Kings Blues Club macht eine 8-köpfige Motown und Blues Band ordentlich Stimmung.

Ein erlebnisreicher erster Tag ging für uns mit einem Cocktail und der Show zu Ende. Auf der Kabine erwartete uns schon das Programm für den nächsten Hafen und ein süßes Handtuchtier mit einem Schokoladengruß. Wir freuten uns auf Valencia, das erste Juwel auf unserer Reise mit der Eurodam.

 [:en]It was our first day on the cruise ship MS Eurodam by Holland America Line. We were very excited to discover the gems of Spain. Our trip began in the harbour of Barcelona and on board we discovered our amazing Signature Suite.

When we stepped into our Signature Suite on the Eurodam, our luggage was already there. Also a lot of information was available, including a deck plan of the MS Eurodam and the German-language program for the first day. The program included all the information about what to do on onboard. But first we had a look at all the amenities of our cabin. Afterwards we went to the Sail Away party at 5 pm on deck 9.

Signature Suite Features

The Signature Suites on the Eurodam are all recently renovated and decorated in light gray and brown tones.

There is a large sofa with an armchair and a coffee table. On the table was an empty fruit bowl with a list of fruits. On the list you can mark the desired fruit in the beginning of the trip. The choice was between red and green apples, bananas, pears and oranges. You will then receive complimentary fresh fruits. When needed, the fruit basket is refilled during the trip. Beside the sofa stood a big dressing table with an illuminated mirror, a magnifying mirror and a hair dryer. The bathroom was equipped with a large double sink, a shower, toilet and a whirlpool bathtub. Also, there was shower gel, shampoo and conditioner from Elemis, a famous British spa and skincare brand.

There were also personalized cruise stationery and three postcards of the Eurodam. Additionally we received an ONBOARD value booklet for Signature Suite guests, the program for excursions and a booklet with port Informations for our cruise. The ONBOARD value booklet is a saving book with a variety of onboard services and amneties such as:

• Receive a complimentary hour in the thermal suite and hydropool while in port
• Receive a Grand Coffee Beverage for the price of a tall at the Explorations Café
• Dinner for two at pinnacle Grill with purchase of a 7-bottle Admiral´s Wine Package
• 10% Discount with purchase of a Navigator wine package (7 bottles) on board
• $10 off monogrammed Holland America Line bathrobe purchased on board
• One complimentary fitness class with purchase of one fitness class

Also we found our card for the Soda package. We had pre-ordered the Soda Package online. The Soda package contained Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Tonic Water and Ginger Ale from the tap (no cans). It does not contain water. We paid US$ 25.00 online and received a value of US$ 50.00. We had bought two packages, which was to much. We did not drink so much soda due to the long time on land in the ports. Next time we would only buy one package. You have to carry the card for the soda package all the time with you, because they swipe the card everytime you purchase a soda from the package. We could use the soda package in every bar and restaurant.

The Signature suite had a big working corner with a large window to the balcony. Here was the minibar and we found Binoculars for use during the voyage. For our luggage there were three wardrobes with double doors, we really had a lot of space. Here we could have easily accommodated luggage for 14 days. In the wardrobe were life jackets as well as two nice bathrobes, an umbrella and a basket for shoes. Here one could put in shoes for the free shoeshine service.

Above the sofa hung a big flatscreen television with approx. 48 inches. On the television we found information about the menus of the restaurants and get travel tips. The video On Demand Interactive TV System contained a lot of movies and series in different languages. Our balcony was really big. There were two armchairs and a table. The only deficiency: we had the balcony directly next to the glass lift and one could see perfectly from the lift on to our balcony. It was a pity, but we did not want to get disturbed by that, because otherwise the balcony was simply wonderful.

Alcohol on board the MS Eurodam

Now we were curiuos to see the rest of the Eurodam. However, before we left our cabin we ordered an ice bucket for our champagne. Aboard Holland America Line each guest above 21 years old may bring one bottle of wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) in their carry-on luggage at the beginning of the cruise, which may be enjoyed in the cabin. For additional wine or champagne bottles you have to pay a US$18.00 corkage fee. Other spirits are not permitted. The ice bucket came immediately and we got to know our very friendly cabin steward.

Sail Away Party

At 3 pm the mandatory sea drill took place on the Eurodam. After the drill we went on deck 9. On deck 9 the sail away party took place. We enjoyed Spanish tapas and drinks (charged). A really fantastic variety of tapas was offered and there were tables everywhere around the pool. We enjoyed the sunshine and the Spanish music while leaving Barcelona.

Before dinner we went to the welcome aboard champagne hour at the Art Gallery on deck 2. Besides many other pictures, we saw two 3D pictures of Romero Britto. We found out that many pieces of art are offered exclusively onboard by Park West. Art lovers can buy a piece of Art which will be delivered home. A little bit further on deck two we also found the amazing Gallery Bar.

Open Seating Dinner

We chose the open seating for dinner in the main dining room. Open seating means that we could choose to go to dinner between 5:30 pm and 9:15 pm. Sometimes we had to wait a bit for a free table. In that case we received a Buzzer which lighted up when the table was free. Just like on other cruises we could choose a starter, a main Course and a dessert. Icewater was complimentary. They offered a good variety of wines which you could order (charges apply).

Excursion Tipps by Location Guide Tom

After dinner we visited the Smooth Sailing Show of the Cruise Director with Location Guide Tom and afterwards the B.B. King´s All-Stars Club. We can recommend both. At the Smooth Sailing Show, Tour Guide Tom gives really excellent tipps for excursions ashore. We really liked the fact, that Tom gives you a lot of information about the ports. On other ships we experienced this kind of show as a sales pitch for land excursions offered by the cruise line. This is not the case on the Eurodam. You get great informations for visiting the cities on your own. Tom also gives you advice on local food you should try at the destinations. At the B.B. Kings Blues Club a motown band plays the best Memphis music.

The exciting first day came to an end for us with a cocktail and a show. In the cabin we found the program for the next port and a cute towel animal with a chocolate greeting. We were excited to visit Valencia tomorrow, the first gem of Spain on our trip with the Eurodam.
