The next stop was Livorno. This is on the Tuscan Mediterranean coast. Wonderful! We had decided to rent a car in Livorno in order to explore the area. On the internet, we found a Cruise Special by Hertz. Since we were six, we booked a minivan with 7 seats (150, – €). The great thing about this special was that the car was waiting for us right next to the ship (it was at the bottom of the gangway), and we could also return it there. Perfect!
We all fit into the car without problems and sped off. We had planned a trip to Lucca and then to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We informed us about Lucca in the Internet. So off to Lucca!
In Lucca there were colorful houses, market stalls and of course great Italian restaurants and cafes. We were astonished at the statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi in Piazza del Giglio, drank coffee, bought pasta and spices. Simply great!
Then we went to Pisa. There are a few parking areas close to the leaning tower, so parking is not a problem. It costs about 1,- € per hour. The tower was leaning and the weather was fine. What more do you want.
Then we went back to the ship. That night we decided to try a an additional charge restaurant. We went into the Paniolo Tapas & Salsa on deck 8 and tried the Mexican cuisine. The charge was $ 10 per person and we were curious to see if it was worth investing $ 10, especially since the buffet at the Garden Cafe indeed was incredibly good and sometimes they even offered Mexican specialties. Our hopes about Mexican specialties were met. It was an incredible amount of food, superbly delicious and we had a table by the window! It’s worth it!
