Man bezahlt dafür keinen Eintritt.

The Cruise Port in Barcelona is located near the Ramblas and the city center. The most interesting parts of the city near the port are called Port Vell and Barceloneta. If you rather want to make a stroll through the wide pedestrian area (La Ramblas) and try some great food, you should read our blog post Sant Jordi and 3 foodie tips for Barcelona.

From the cruise ship you can easily take the blue port bus T3 to the monument of Christopher Columbus. The outward journey costs 2 Euros and a day ticket 3 Euros. The port bus stops at every cruise ship and travels regularly back and forth. The Monument a Colom (Columbus Monument) is located at the end of La Rambla. This monument dates back to the year 1888 and has an elevator inside, which takes you up to 60 meters to a viewing platform. Columbus came to Barcelona in 1943, after his return from America and was celebrated there as the discoverer of the New World. Admission costs 6 euros. On the website of Barcelona Turisme you can buy Tickets with 15% discount.

Marco Polo adventure tour „Sun, beach and sea“

On this day, we used our Barcelona travel guide by Marco Polo to discover the port area of Barcelona. In this guide, there are several adventure tours with which you can explore the city. On this day we wanted to test a part of the tour „sun, sea and beach“, which is designed for 6 to 7 hours. Start is at the Monument a Cristóbal Colom. Included in the tour is a great harbor cruise and a trip to a bar with incredible views of the harbor. The tour includes also a bike route that we did not try. The tour can be also found in the free tour app by Marco Polo. With this app you can also navigate offline with your smartphone. If you have 3 to 4 hours ashore, you can explore the port area very well on your own.

Christopher Columbus Barcelona harbor

Harbor cruise

How can you explore the maritime side of Barcelona? Of course with a harbor cruise. So we started with a 40-minute harbor cruise in Barcelona. We tried the ships Las Golondrinas for this harbor cruise. You will find them close to the statue of Christopher Columbus.

Las Golondrinas Hafenrundfahrt

The ships will take you on a great tour along the cruise ships and the Port Olimpic to admire the yachts. You have the choice of different ships. We opted for the traditional boat without music and with an open deck. You can sit upstairs or downstairs. Both floors are open deck and you can enjoy a wonderful view of the sea and the port. On the boat it was quite windy and cold, so you should always have a scarf and a jacket with you. We took amazingly great shots of the many cruise ships. Especially on weekends you are very lucky to see many of them.

After this eventful harbor cruise we were near the Columbus monument again and walked along the Passeig de Colom in the district of Port Vell. The Passeig de Colom is a beautiful promenade at the old port, from where you can see many impressive yachts and large sailing ships. The promenade will lead you to a Roy Lichtenstein sculpture „El Cap de Barcelona“. One sees a large, colorful face made by the American Pop Art artist Roy Lichtenstein in collaboration with Diego Delgado Rajado in the year 1991. It belongs to a series of sculptures called „Brushstrokes“.

If you follow the promenade on the right side of the sculpture, you see a long building with many huge umbrellas on the sidewalk. This is the Museu d’Historia de Catalunya in Palau de Mar, an old warehouse. The museum has interactive exhibits on the history of Catalonia. Tickets cost 4.50 euros and you will find the entrance when you pass by the restaurants at the harbor. Almost at the end of the building you will see an open archway. You have to walk through and on the right side you will see the entrance of the museum. But the very special highlight is the rooftop terrace of the museum. There is the restaurant and terrace 1881 Sagardi .

1881 Sagardi View Barcelona

You just go straight through the entrance of the museum and take the elevator up to the restaurant. Then you pay no entrance fee. The rooftop terrace is open daily from 1 pm to 1:00 am at night. The restaurant is closed from 4 pm to 6 pm. At the terrace you can only get drinks. From here you have a magnificent view over the port of Barcelona. There are bar stools at small cocktail tables, comfortable armchairs and you can listen to lounge music from the speakers. We enjoyed a delicious Aperol Spritz and could even see the Norwegian Epic cruise ship far away at the port. Although the prices are quite expensive (a glass of Aperol Spritz costs 9 euros) and the service is relatively slow, but the view is truly amazing and you can relax.
