Harmony of the Seas: Das Schiff der Superlative

[:de]Wir haben eine außergewöhnliche Kreuzfahrt hinter uns. Wir waren vier Tage auf der Harmony of the Seas, dem bisher größten Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt. Natürlich haben wir es nicht geschafft, in dieser kurzen Zeit alles auszuprobieren und alles zu sehen, aber wir haben einen guten Eindruck von diesem Kreuzfahrtschiff bekommen und den möchten wir mit euch teilen. Erfahrt in unserem ersten Reisebericht, was es auf der Harmony of the Seas alles zu sehen und zu erleben gibt.

Warum ist die Harmony of the Seas ein Schiff der Superlative?

Die Harmony of the Seas fährt seit ihrer Jungfernfahrt am 29.05.2016 im westlichen Mittelmeer und ist mit ihren 361 Metern Länge größer als der Eifelturm in Paris und doppelt so groß wie das Washington Monument. Das Schiff hat 17 Decks und bei doppelter Belegung passen über 6000 Passagiere an Bord. Schon bei unserem Anflug auf Barcelona konnten wir aus der Luft erkennen, wie gigantisch die Harmony im Vergleich zu den anderen Schiffen im Hafen von Barcelona ist. Ebenfalls von oben bereits erkennbar war die Ultimate Abyss Rutsche, die zurzeit größte Rutsche auf See. Die beiden pinkfarbenen Rutschen, die sich am Heck der Harmony 28 Meter serpentinenmäßig in die Tiefe schlängeln stachen uns sofort ins Auge. Weitere Dinge, die die Harmony besonders machen sind die unzähligen Kunstobjekte an Bord. Auf der Harmony gibt es nämlich mehr Kunstwerke, als der Louvre Bilder hat. Das muss man sich mal auf der Zunge zergehen lassen. Außerdem hat der Central Park ca. 12.000 Pflanzen an Bord. All diese Dinge machen die Harmony aus unserer Sicht einzigartig. Aufgeregt und neugierig gingen wir also am Sonntag in Barcelona an Bord.

Highlights auf der Harmony

Die Harmony of the Seas ist das neueste Kreuzfahrtschiff der Reederei Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. und bietet unter anderem folgende Highlights, die das größte Schiff der Welt zu einem Erlebnis machen:

• Es gibt mehrere Shows an Bord – darunter das eigene Musical Columbus, eine Eisshow, eine Wassershow und zum ersten Mal auf hoher See das Broadway Musical Grease !
• Ein echtes technisches Erlebnis ist die Bionic Bar auf der Royal Promenade, in der Roboter umher wirbeln und Cocktails mixen, die man selbst kreieren kann
• Es gibt mit Voom das schnellste Internet auf See.
• Es gibt 8 Spezialitätenrestaurants an Bord, darunter das Jamie’s Italian mit italienischer Küche von Jamie Oliver und das Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine, das die Gäste mit magischen Kreationen verzaubert

Viele Dieser Attraktionen haben wir ausprobiert, aber als erstes haben wir natürlich unsere Kabine erkundet.

Wie war unsere Kabine?

Unsere Kabine lag auf Deck 6 (Kabine 6676) und damit auf dem gleichen Deck wie der Boardwalk mit dem Karussell, dem Starbucks und dem Zugang zum Aqua Theater. Die Kabine lag in der Mitte des Schiffs und war in schönen Blautönen dekoriert. Sie hatte einen geräumigen Balkon mit Meerblick und zwei verstellbaren Stühlen inklusive Fußhocker und kleinem Tisch.

Im vorderen Bereich der Kabine waren ein Sofa, zwei Kleiderschränke, eine Kommode und ein Schreibtisch. Es gab also ausreichend Stauraum für unsere Garderobe und Kosmetik. Die Betten waren bequem und der Fernseher gegenüber vom Bett. Es gibt mehrere Steckdosen über dem Schreibtisch. Unter anderem auch 2 USB-Anschlüsse und eine europäische Steckdose. Leider gibt es keine Steckdose an Kopfende des Bettes.

Das Bad war für ein Kreuzfahrtschiff normal groß und hatte eine wirklich schöne und große Dusche. Im Bad gab es leider keine Schubladen, sondern nur etwas Ablagefläche an der Seite neben dem Waschbecken. Einziges echtes Manko war aus unserer Sicht das winzige Waschbecken. Hier konnten wir uns leider nicht das Gesicht waschen, ohne das halbe Bad unter Wasser zu setzen und Haare waschen im Waschbecken ging gar nicht. Es gibt leider auch keine Facial Tissues oder Sanitary Bags im Bad. Facial Tissues findet man nur in einer Pappbox in einer der Schubladen der Kommode.

Den Balkon fanden wir wirklich toll. Hier haben wir auch morgens gefrühstückt und den kostenlosen Kabinenservice getestet. Der Tisch war ausreichend für zwei Mal Saft, Kaffee und jeweils einen Teller. Mehr passte allerdings auch nicht darauf. Wir haben hier zweimal morgens unser Frühstück genossen und fanden es herrlich.

Erster Rundgang über Deck

Nachdem wir die Kabine erkundet hatten, gingen wir uns zunächst mit einem Kaffee bei Starbucks stärken. Die Preise des Starbucks ähnelten denen an Land. Starbucks ist auf der Harmony eines der Bezahlrestaurants und die Kaffeespezialitäten, die wir kauften, waren in keinem Getränkepaket enthalten. Ihr müsst hier also immer extra zahlen. Seenotrettungsübung

Bei uns fand als nächstes die Seenotrettungsübung statt. Unsere Musterstation war auf Deck 5, dem Promenade deck an der Bionic Bar. Das war einfach zu merken und zu finden. Bei der Seenotrettungsübung auf der Harmony mussten wir nicht unsere Rettungswesten mitnehmen. Wie auf der Mein Schiff 4 wurde auch auf der Harmony nur ein Video gezeigt, dass alle Sicherheitsmaßnahmen erklärte. Dieses Video war auf Englisch und war im Kabinen-TV auch in anderen Sprachen, wie deutsch, spanisch und italienisch verfügbar. Leider muss man während der Übung stehen, es gibt keine Sitzgelegenheiten, wenn man die Musterstation E1 hat. Außerdem wurde uns bei der Übung zum ersten Mal der „Wash your hands“ Film und Song gezeigt.  Ein Animationsvideo, das einem überall an Bord begegnet. Es soll an das regelmäßige Händewaschen vor dem Essen erinnern.

Nach der Seenotrettungsübung sollte die Harmony auslaufen und wir fuhren mit dem Fahrstuhl hoch auf Deck 16 zur Mastbar um dort mit einem Getränk die Ausfahrt aus Barcelona zu genießen. Die Mastbar liegt in der Mitte des Schiffes auf dem Aussendeck und bot eine tolle Aussicht über das Pooldeck und auf das Meer. Leider gab es wenige Sitzplätze (Barhocker) und Tische, aber der Blick war fantastisch. Im Hafen von Barcelona lagen auch die Britannia und die Costa Fascinosa. Es war einfach unglaublich, zwei weitere Kreuzfahrtschiffe von solch einem großen Schiff wie der Harmony of the Seas zu beobachten.

Wir schlenderten danach noch etwas über das Pooldeck und gingen dann auf einen Aperitif in die Bionic Bar auf Deck 5 und von dort zum Essen im Hauptrestaurant auf Deck 4. Mehr über unsere Kreuzfahrt erfahrt ihr in unserem nächsten Bericht.

It is the biggest cruise ship in the world. Of course, we did not manage to try everything in this short time, but we did get a good impression of this cruise ship and we want to share our impressions with you. Why is the Harmony of the Seas a ship of superlatives?

The Harmony of the Seas travels since her maiden voyage on the 29th of May in the western Mediterranean. With its 361 meters in length, the Harmony of the Seas is longer than the Eiffel Tower in Paris is high and this cruise ship is twice as big as the Washington Monument. The ship has 17 decks and fits at double occupancy over 6000 passengers. During our flight to Barcelona we could see the cruise ship from the airplane and we realized how gigantic the Harmony is compared to other cruise ships in the port of Barcelona. From the airplane we already recognized the Ultimate Abyss slide, which is currently the largest slide at sea. The two pink chutes have a 28 meters serpentine slide and are located at the rear of the Harmony. There are many other things, which make the Harmony special. For example, the countless works of art on board. On the Harmony there are more works of art than the Louvre in Paris has paintings. In addition, the Central Park has about 12,000 plants on board. All these things make the Harmony unique from our perspective. Excited and curious, we embarked the cruise ship in Barcelona.

Highlights on the Harmony

The Harmony of the Seas is the newest cruise ship of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and offers the following highlights that make the biggest ship in the world a ship of Superlatives:

• There are several shows on board – including the own musical Columbus, an ice show, a water show and for the first time at sea, the Broadway musical Grease!
• A real technical experience is the Bionic bar on the Royal Promenade, the robots swirl around and mix cocktails. You can also create an own drink.
• Voom is the fastest Internet at sea.
• There are 8 specialty restaurants on board, including Jamie’s Italian with Italian cuisine characterized by Jamie Oliver and the Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine, which will charm guests with magical creations.

We tried many activities and discovered a lot on board, but first we explored our cabin.

Discovering our cabin

Our cabin was on deck 6 (booth 6676) and therefore on the same deck as the Boardwalk with the carousel, the Starbucks and the access to the Aqua Theater. The cabin was located in the middle of the ship and was designed in beautiful shades of blue. It had a spacious balcony with ocean view and two adjustable chairs including footstools and a small table.

In the front area of the cabin were a bed, two wardrobes, a dresser and a desk. So there was enough space for our clothes and cosmetics. The beds were comfortable and the TV was opposite the bed. There are several outlets on the desk. Among others, 2 USB ports and a European outlet. Unfortunately, there is no outlet next to the bed.

The bathroom was a normal size for a cruise ship and had a really nice and large shower. In the bathroom there were no drawers, but only a little shelf on the side next to the sink. The only real drawback in our view was the tiny sink. Here we could not wash our face without drowning half the bathroom in water and washing our hair in the sink was not possible. Unfortunately, there are no facial tissues or sanitary bags in the bathroom. Facial tissues can only be found in a cardboard box in one of the dresser drawers.

We really liked the balcony. Here we also had breakfast in the morning and tested the free cabin service. The table had enough space for two glasses of juice, two coffees and two plates. We enjoyed a small breakfast twice on our balcony and loved to relax and watch the ocean.

First tour aboard the ship

After we explored our cabin, we first strengthened us with a coffee at Starbucks. The prices of Starbucks were similar to the prices on land. Starbucks is extra charged on the Harmony and the coffees that we bought were not included in any beverage package. So you always have to pay extra. You will find out more about beverage packages and restaurants in our review and blog post on food and drinks aboard the Harmony.

Muster Drill

Then we had to go to the muster drill. Our muster station was on deck 5, the promenade deck, next to the Bionic bar. It was easy to remember and to find. We did not need our lifejackets for the muster drill. The procedure was similar to on board the Mein Schiff 4. The crew showed us a video, which showed us all safety instructions. This video was only in English. The video was available in other languages such as German, Spanish and Italian on your own cabin TV. Unfortunately, there were no seats at our muster station E1, so we had to stand all the time while watching the video. In addition, we saw the „Wash your hands“ movie and song for the first time. It is an animated video that you will see everywhere on board. It remembers you to wash your hands regularly and especially before eating.

After the muster drill at the Harmony, we took the lift to enjoy a drink on deck 16 at the Mast bar while leaving Barcelona. The Mast bar is located in the middle of the ship on the outside deck and had a great view of the pool deck and the ocean. Unfortunately, there were only few seats (bar stool) and tables, but the view was fantastic. In the port of Barcelona we also saw the Britannia and the Costa Fascinosa. It was amazing to see other cruise ships from aboard such a big ship like the Harmony of the Seas.

After that we strolled over the pool deck and then enjoyed a drink in the Bionic Bar on deck 5.  From there we went to the main restaurant on deck 4. You can read more about our cruise in the next part of our review.
