[:de]Heute erreichten wir Cherbourg. Cherbourg liegt im Département Manche in der Region Basse-Normandie. Von Cherbourg aus kann man viele tolle Ausflüge machen, eine Hafenrundfahrt, das Musée de la Libération besuchen oder auch einfach nur in die Stadt gehen. Wir wollten uns die Stadt ansehen und auf den Markt gehen, um französische Kräuter und andere Spezialitäten zu kaufen. Außerdem wollten wir ein Geburtstagspäckchen mit französischen Leckereien packen und an unsere Freundin verschicken.

Für alle, die einen Ausflug mit Celebrity gebucht hatten, ging es früh los. Die Busse hatten einen weiten Weg vor sich. Entweder an die Strände der Normandie, zum Kloster Mont Saint Michelle oder sogar nach Paris. Für den Ausflug in die Innenstadt von Cherbourg bot Celebrity einen kostenpflichtigen Shuttle Bus an.

Französische Leckereien in Cherbourg

Cherbourg ist sehr malerisch. Die kleine Innenstadt hat viele Fachwerkhäuser, enge Gassen und schöne Fußgängerzonen. Der Bus hielt direkt in der Stadt und nur wenige Meter vom Markt entfernt. Wir konnten also als Erstes über den Wochenmarkt schlendern und frische Austern, französischen Käse und Marmeladen oder Salami probieren. Natürlich gab es auch jede Menge Kräuter. Frisch oder getrocknet. Wir kauften getrocknete Kräuter der Provence. Die sind herrlich zu Fleisch, in Soßen, auf Pizza oder zu Pasta. Da eine gute Freundin demnächst Geburtstag hatte, kaufen wir auch für sie Kräuter und frische Marmelade. In Cherbourg gab es wunderbare Feigenmarmelade. Jetzt fehlten uns noch französische Pralinen oder Macarons und ein Postamt, um das Geburtstagspäckchen auf den Weg zu bringen.

Wir schlenderten also vom Markt zur Fußgängerzone. Hier gab es jede Menge Läden mit französischen Pralinen und Gebäck. Auch die berühmte Seife aus Marseille und Lavendelsäckchen konnte man überall kaufen. Wir bestückten unser Päckchen noch mit Seife und Pralinen und fanden direkt in der Innenstadt ein Postamt, so dass wir das original französische Geburtstagspaket auf den Weg bringen konnten. Danach bummelten wir weiter durch die Stadt. Überall konnte man frische Austern sowie herrliche Käsesorten und Wein probieren. Leider kann man weder den Käse noch die Austern mitnehmen, also sollte man diese Dinge vor Ort probieren.

Rückreise nach Southampton

Als wir zum Bus zurückgingen waren wir etwas wehmütig, da Cherbourg der letzte Hafen auf unserer wunderbaren Transatlantikreise war. Der nächste Stopp war Southampton und von hier ging es dann mit dem Flugzeug zurück nach Deutschland. Mit uns gingen heute auch die Zollbeamten an Bord, um die Einreise nach England bzw. nach Europa bereits an Bord zu erledigen. Dadurch waren die Kontrollen in Southampton nur noch kurz und wir gelangten schnell von Bord und in den Flieger zurück nach Hause. Am Flughafen konnten wir noch bei einem Ale einen kleinen Teil der Hochzeit von Prinz William und Kate im Fernsehen sehen. Wunderbar![:en]Today we reached Cherbourg. Cherbourg is part of the Département Manche in the Basse-Normandie.  From Cherbourg you can go on many great trips, visit the musée de la Libération, or even just go to the city centre. We wanted to see the city and go to the market to buy herbs and other French specialties. We wanted to send a birthday package with french treats to our friend.

For those who wanted to go on an excursion with Celebrity they had to get up early. Most busses had a long ride to take. You could go on an Excursion either to the beaches of the Normandie, the monastery Mont Saint Michelle or even to Paris. In order to get to the city centre of Cherbourg Celebrity offered a shuttle bus.

French Treats in Cherbourg

Cherbourg is very picturesque. The small city has many half-timbered houses, narrow streets and beautiful pedestrian areas. The bus stopped right in the city centre and just a few meters from the market. So we could take a first stroll through the weekly market and taste fresh oysters, French cheeses and jams or sausages. Of course there were plenty of herbs. Fresh or dried. We bought dried herbs of Provence for our friend and ourselves. These herbs are wonderful with meat, in sauces, on pizza or pasta. We also bought fresh jam and a sausage for our friend´s birthday package on the market. In Cherbourg you can also buy a wonderful fig jam. Now we were still missing French chocolates or Macarons and a post office, in order to bring the birthday package on its way. So we strolled from the market into the pedestrian zone.

There were plenty of shops with French chocolates and pastries. You could even find shops, where you could buy the famous soap from Marseille and Lavender. We bought a rose soap and chocolates for the pakage. We found a Postoffice directly in the city centre, so that we could bring French birthday package on its way. Then we strolled around the city. Everywhere you could taste fresh oysters or magnificent cheeses and wine. Unfortunately, you can not take the cheese nor the oysters on board, so you should try these things on the spot.

Returning to Southampton

As we walked back to the bus we have been a bit sad, since Cherbour was the last harbour on our wonderful transatlantic crossing cruise. The next stop was Southhampton and from here we took a plane back to Germany. Today the English customs officers got also on board. The Custom control took place on board when we cruised from Cherbourg to Southhampton.  In Southhampton we could disembark quickly and board the flight back home. Before we boarded the train, we were able to take a glimpse at the wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine Middleton. Wonderful![:]
